Transitioning from High School into college is a big, important step and taking the SAT and/or the ACT is just the beginning. So, how do you know which test is best for you? Well, just keep reading and you’ll be signing up for your test in no time.
In order to know which test is best for you, you have to know the differences between the two.
Biggest difference between the SAT and the ACT is that the ACT acquires a dedicated section of science, along with reading, writing and math. Whereas, the SAT also has sections devoted to reading, writing, and math but the science section is entirely absent.
Second biggest difference is that the ACT has a reputation of being fast paced, more so than the SAT. The ACT is known to be time-rigorous and requiring students to answer more question in less amount of time.
The ACT also has notoriety of a wider, more complex section of math ranging from algebra to geometry to trigonometry, containing logarithms, graphs of trig functions, and matrices, whereas the SAT consistently just emphasizes algebra in their math section but also asks more data analysis and modeling questions. Bottom line is If you’re able to remember formulas well and have particularly good trigonometry and geometry skills, you will like the ACT math section better.
In the end, when comparing the ACT and the SAT, the two test are very similar. They share roughly the same vocabulary and run about the same length of time, they just have a few fundamental differences. The best way to find out which test is best for you is to take a free practice test of each one and compare your scores. Rest assured that colleges gladly accept both tests. So what test will you take? The SAT, or the ACT, or maybe even both?
