Why is dressing modestly important?
I used to think that if you dressed modest, you were old fashion and that you didn't fit in. But after reading the word and this amazing quote, I realized..I wasn't born to fit in, I was born to stand out.
Why is standing out important? I'll just say this...when I was a senior in HS (I know Miss Araebia, that was so long ago lol), I never wanted to "be" like anyone except myself. I knew that I was different in every way and believe me, I made sure EVERYONE knew how different I was. While in HS, from being a freshmen all the way up to being a senior I realized that people looked forward to my quirkiness. I used to dress so weird in school. I always had something bright, vibrant, loud on at school. I even had tights that didn't match, stripes with polka dots, etc. I remember one day it was laundry day and I had on a white tee shirt and blue denim jeans and when I arrived at school, my peers were like "what do you have on?" I was like clothes!!! They were asking me did I feel well, am I ok, etc. It was then that I realized that I started something I had to finish. Of course I had to make it up the next day and where something super out of the ordinary.
But Miss Araebia, I would never dare to wear that!!! Of course not, because you care what people think. I actually didn't care & that's what kept me different. Even in Corporate America when I used to work in an office, I made sure that I had on something appealing to catch the eye. WHY??? It gave me the opportunity to witness to someone and tell them about Jesus. You see, all along HE was the main reason I did what I did.
When we dress in a certain why, it sends a message --> that message could be good or bad. Some people believe that their worth comes from how expensive their clothes are, etc. I didn't; what I cared about was how could I be a godly example to others.
But, Miss Araebia..I love the Lord --> I am just embarrassed sometimes. I know that being different, dressing modest could be limiting, but the end results could be so much better. With society telling us how we should look and bullying at an all time high, if we decided that we just dont' care. If we decided that we ACCEPT that we're fearfully and wonderfully made ((Psalms 139:14)) and focus on our hearts the way the Lord does, we could win a lot more than losing.
Will people talk about us??? YES, YES AND YES!! Here's a piece of advice that my mom gave me a long time ago. People will always talk about you. Whether you're doing good or bad. It's when they "stop" talking about you is when you should care!

xoxo,
Miss Araebia
