Why I chose to homeschool... | Christian Blogger | Homeschool | ACE

Alot of people ask me why did you choose to homeschool and the answer is simple. To keep my life as simple as possible. Being a single mother of 6, when sending your children to school to get "that peace" that most parents need during the day, I chose to take that time to pour into them.
Have my children ever attending public school, Yes they have. Was it beneficial, partially. When my oldest daughter was in middle school, like most children she was teased, but she didn't tell me until years later. She would always make it seem as if things were ok in school. For 2 years, she tried to get on the cheerleading team and she didn't make it the first year. That year, we paid for All-Stars cheerleading - Prodigy All-Stars and when she went back to audition/try-out for the team the second time around, she made it!!! Most people would be rejoicing by now, but the unmentionable happened. Yup, you guessed it --> WE MOVED!!! We relocated to a huge house in an amazing school district which meant that she missed try-outs for the new school and she's back in the same place she was in a few years ago. I felt so bad, but at the same time a great education was better than popularity to her dad and I.
The following year, she made the JV team in HS and no we didn't move. But that's when the chaos begin. Fighting, teasing and taunting from members of her team. I think I was at her school every other day. Finally, our families situation became inevitable and my ex-husband and I divorced. It was the hardest thing for me and my children. Their grades began to decline so fast and I knew that before they flunked, I needed to intervene.
My godsister went to a private christian high school and told me to try the program that she used. Accelerated Christian Education. I looked on their website and ordered their brochure for more information. After a few days, I received all the information for starting my own school, homeschooling and how this could not only help fill a void, but also teach them to be closer to the Lord during our time of grieving.
I pulled my daughter out of school after researching how to start my homeschool in NC, and she begin her classes. To my surprise, she did well. After that, my we begin to homeschool my eldest son as well. It was also going well.
Pros & Cons: We put them back in school for senior year because they wanted to attend prom with "real people" as they said and attend a "real graduation." I let them both go back in school, but what I noticed was that my daughter was up to 2-3am with school work in AP classes. When I homeschooled, she was completed with her school work in a few hours. Even advanced classes.
My sons grades dropped as he got really lazy and didn't want to do his work anymore. He almost didn't graduate! After some intense mommy time {{punishment and getting on him}} he passed all his classes with 3 As and 1B.
I am not sure where the disconnection was with the two oldest, but I'm glad they've completed their schooling. After having my children in public school & the divorce, we moved to a nice house but the schools in the area weren't up to my standards, so I decided to put them in charter school. A year later of being accepted, they begin school {{after being homeschooled for 2 years.}}. My second oldest boy & youngest son was doing great in school, but the last two girls struggled. I couldn't figure out what was going on. Then, my youngest daughter's teacher left in the middle of the year and they were assigned a new teacher. My daughter is very quiet natured, so when she begin coming home very sad because her teacher was yelling at the class, I didn't know how to handle that. My nephew, who attended the school told me "auntie" Madi's teacher is always yelling at the class. Why is she so angry?? A question I couldn't answer. After several emails and unresponsive meeting requests, I finally went up to the school and had a talk with the administrator.
Madi's teacher was very young & very aggressive. She told several fibs throughout the conversation & it was at that point that I decided that it was time to give my children the education that I know God wanted them to have.
I asked in several groups about homeschooling and if there was a scripture for it. A simple reply allowed me to know I was doing the right thing. Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22.6
I have since been homeschooling for 2.5 years and I can honestly say that me homeschooling is one of the best decisions that my family and myself could have made.
ACE or Lighthouse Christian Education is affordable for my family and I love how they learn on a continuous basis. Where ever they left off is where they begin in their studies for the next grade level, which has been a plus for my 7th grader because she needs that mental stability to grasp her course work and continue to learn without too much constant change.
(I am not writing this blog to promote ACE, this is my personal opinion about their program and why The Barnhardts' love their program and how it works for us mentally, spiritually and financially)
